about
history
Paragon Farm is a top class breeding and training facility located in scenic Great Bear. The farm is unique in that it has been owned by the Hayes family for over half a century, founded by Thoroughbred owner and trainer Arthur Hayes, Nathan's great-grandfather. Since then, it has been passed down from father to son with the quality and type of our Thoroughbreds staying consistent over the years. The farm has produced countless champions and will continue to do so for many years to come, even as it expands to include sport horses for the show jumping and event world.
training methods
Paragon Farm strives to produce young horses that are confident and sound of mind come race or show day. We use no quick fixes and require a minimum of 6 hours of daily turn-out on lush green pasture for our active race and show horses. Foals are imprinted at birth and handled daily for short periods of time. To help ward off issues that stem from starting horses under saddle too early, our horses are started ground driving in a round pen. By the time anyone gets on their back, our horses are comfortable with basic aids and carrying weight.
All weanlings sold by Paragon Farm will be trained to halter, lead, and will have had their feet extensively handled. Prior to weaning, they will have been taught to enter a trailer alongside their dam.

breeding
While our focus is and always will be on producing champions, we pride ourselves in selecting our breeding stock not only based on speed, but on soundness and temperament. Serious vices such as aggression will not be perpetuated for the sake of producing a winning horse. If the vice cannot be trained out nor improved through selective breeding, we send the horse directly to our retirement facility to ensure that the undesirable trait does not find its way into our next crop of foals.
